Where we got these numbers
  • Fares are from mbta.com, checked 2026-08-19, and change over time. Treat this as a helpful estimate, not a guarantee.
  • Total monthly cost (Full monthly cost on the employer side) is the current MBTA price for a Commuter Rail monthly pass: $90 to $426 depending on the zone, before any promo or contribution.
  • The Commuter Rail promo, employer subsidy, and pre-tax savings are applied in that order, each on top of what's left after the step before it.
  • If you're subsidizing more than one zone, each row above lists that zone's full sticker price times headcount, and those subtotals add up to Full monthly cost right below them. The promo and your contribution are applied once, after that, to reach Your estimated monthly cost.
  • The 30% pre-tax savings default is MBTA's own Perq page figure, not an exact number. Adjust it if a different rate applies.
